Simon McMaster
Simon’s journey began in 2010 with a four-year carpentry apprenticeship, where he gained diverse experience in residential construction, renovations, and commercial projects. His strong work ethic and dedication and love for the building industry led him to work as a qualified carpenter subcontracting before joining his family’s building company as a site supervisor in 2016. In this role, he managed the construction of approximately 500 homes.
He further advanced to construction manager after completing his Certificate IV in Building and an Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction. In 2022, with over 15 years in the building industry he partnered with Ben Trew to establish One Design Ballarat. With Simon’s Knowledge for building and Ben's drafting and design flair you’re certainly in good hands when designing your home.
Ben Trew
Ben joined the design industry when he completed an Advanced Diploma of Building Design at Federation University in 2018. In his final year of study he accepted a part time employment with RB Building Design gaining invaluable experience for the following 4 years. In 2022, he partnered with Simon McMaster to establish One Design Ballarat.
Functionality drives Ben’s design philosophy, ensuring that every project meets practical needs and client expectations. He values clear communication, making it a priority to set realistic expectations with clients and guide them through the entire drafting and building process. Whether it’s working on new builds, heritage renovations, or extensions, Ben’s focus remains on translating his clients’ vision into functional, beautiful designs.
On a personal note, Ben is a dedicated sports fan with a background in Aussie Rules and cricket. When he’s not working, he’s likely out on the golf course or binging a TV series.
Tom McMurrie
Tom began in the trades by completing his cabinet making apprenticeship before picking up a drafting role within the joinery industry, He started his Advanced diploma of building design at Federation University completing in 2024.
Tom worked part time with a renowned firm in Ballarat while completing his course gaining experience within the industry. Tom Joined the One Design Ballarat team in March 2025.
Outside of work Tom enjoys time with his wife and son, He spends weekends watching sports and playing hockey locally.
